    "Le latin ne connaissant pas la distinction moderne entre vérité et réalité, verum, de même que son équivalent dans la terminologie philosophique, veritas, peuvent se référer non seulement à ce qui est énoncé sur une chose, mais à la chose elle-même. Ainsi, verum désigne la vérité qui se révèle par la chose elle-même et s'oppose à obscurum. Toutefois, siverum exprime souvent un "état de fait", cela ne saurait être confondu avec l' "évidence" au sens extérieur; en effet, verum signifie aussi, notamment chez Varron et chez Cicéron: en principe, en théorie, contrairement aux apparences."
